This week I have a lovely co-host, Tina, to help me out. She's going to host the show next week and I completely trust her taste in music. All of the shows that are coming up have us both a little emotional. It's Christmas in September for us music lovers in Saskatoon! I can hardly wait. I'll be back in a couple of weeks to host the show.

August 11th Playlist - The Birthday Show!

Another year, another Wednesday, another birthday, another birthday radio show! I remember doing my first birthday show when I turned 26, almost a year after I started playing music in this time slot. People loved it! They called in to the show throughout the year saying that it was their favourite show. Since it is my guilty pleasure show, it was my favourite too! Since then every year I play my favourite songs and artists on my birthday show. It's not really that different than any other Wednesday, other than my guilty pleasure songs that I don't often play. Feist vs. Ron Sexsmith

Recently, I became interested in finding out what other people think about the two different versions of the same song, Brandy Alexander. The story of the song is almost as good as the song itself, where Leslie Feist and Ron Sexsmith came together in Ottawa. Ron was drinking a "Brandy Alexander," which he had ordered because "it was the famous drink that got John Lennon and Harry Nilsson kicked out of the LA Troubadour back in the 70's." (The story is here) Later Feist sent him a lyric by email and they wrote the song that way, finishing up the touches in LA. Feist recorded it and put it on her 2007 hit album "The Reminder" and Sexsmith recorded it later and put it on his album "Exit Strategy of the Soul." Here are some videos of the two songs. Please vote in the poll on the side!

Feist's version is here

Ron Sexsmith's version is here

August 4th Playlist!

This week's show is dedicated to Blitzen Trapper & The Fringe. Firstly, THANK YOU to Blitzen Trapper who will, once again, bless this city with their music. I am flabbergasted that they are coming and so glad that they will be part of FM-Phasis. This will be the best FM-Phasis YET! Secondly, The Fringe is one of my favourite times of the year in Saskatoon.
