Crystal promises to wake you up with great alternative music every Wednesday morning at 6:00 until 8:00 am on CFCR, Saskatoon's community radio station. This blog mostly holds her playlists, some show reviews, and an occasional list!

I really can't express how I'm feeling right now... sad, excited, nostalgic, grateful and so many more emotions. It has been an absolute honour and pleasure to host the Wednesday morning Green Eggs and Ham from 6 to 8 every week. Not only that, but to be part of the Saskatoon music scene. The local artists that have come from this city are amazing and it is great to see more and more putting together fabulous music. I'm so proud of all of the musical talent from Saskatoon.
Saskatoon has been my home for 16 years after I left my small town for "the big city" and it has provided me with so much. It is a special city and my friends from across the country agree with that.
Saskatoon, I will miss you!
All songs are either local artists or artists singing about Saskatoon. Enjoy!

For my second-last show of hosting Wednesday 6-8am green eggs and ham I took a trip down memory lane. Songs that have been instrumental in my musical development and even life development. Thanks to all the staff at CFCR over the years that have been so awesome and for making me the Volunteer of the Month. It has been an honour being a host on this awesome radio station. Next week will be my last week. It is going to be an Ode to Saskatoon. Definitely listen to it.

After 34 years of marriage, my folks are still together and still love each other. They also know each other well. My dad texted me before 6:00 to request a song to send out to my mom, his "main squeeze." She knew exactly what song it was - Bob Dylan's "Maggie's Farm" (my mom's name is Margaret). It made me smile and a little sentimental. Very inspiring. Here is today's kind of V-day playlist with a playlist at the bottom:

Hellooooo music lovers!
First off, I have to apologize to you all. As of today, I have not figured out my top 10 albums of 2012. You see, 2012 was a gong show year for me, my family and some very close friends. Needless to say, I am so glad that 2012 is over! Bring on 2013! For me, 2012 was a year that fell off the map in terms of music. It's a sad state of affairs and something that has happened since I was about, oh, maybe 15 years old or so. It felt like something was missing. So it is very difficult to pick albums from 2012 when I listened to (in depth) about 10 albums in total. A sad state, indeed. I may have to get the help from a friend or two to help me out, but that just hasn't happened yet. So we'll have to settle for playing music from 2011 and beyond... with some 2012 mixed in. Also, Happy new year! Hooray for 2013!

Who I am and what the heck I'm doing on the radio!
I'm Crystal Clarke and I'm a volunteer host at CFCR 90.5FM, Saskatoon's only community radio station, for Wednesday's early edition of Green Eggs and Ham since 2003. It is an imperative part of my week and I hope it is part of yours too! Sharing music has been a hobby of mine for many years and I love to go to concerts, near and far. I like to keep people informed of upcoming shows and events, and the weather. As a natural morning-person I thought that getting up at 5am would be a piece of cake, but some mornings I struggle to get there. So call me at 242-5002 to encourage me to keep the energy high as you start your day!

Crystal's Album of the Week!
AOTW
May 7ths Album of the Week is...
Sarah Slean's "The Baroness"
During her concert here in Saskatoon at the Broadway Theatre, I couldn't help but be in awe of her amazing talent. Her lyrics are so rich and stimulating and her music is so amazing... not to mention her stage presence. It's hard to know how someone so small can take up so much space (actually, being a short person myself, I think I can figure it out).
This is her 6th album release and I very much enjoy listening to this album. It requires a bit of time, patience, and attention to really understand all that she says on this album. It is well worth the work. She wrote this album while in Paris and you can really hear the French influence. As if Sarah could get any more dramatic than she already is!
